Brown is the color of friendship

On a light misty night,
Turning the lights off to a guest
A Hasidic rabbi who drove 500 miles
Making stops every half hour
To find friends sipping tea
Outside
Sitting on the ground
Laughing off stars, protests, events, whatevers

"Do I not speak clearly?"
Kasia asked,
When the rabbi could not
Hear where to check his email at 3:00 am

Not to miss - another late night guest -
A rabbi maybe
They drank another cup of
Black tea
Anticipating Maria's unexpected arrival
Before saying "Good night"
In their tricolored tongues.

dedicated to Kasia from Freedman

  1. Olga, how could I have missed it before... I've just read it and it reminded me this one night at Freedman... and many more.
Brak mi tych herbatek, piwka, naszych rozmów...
    Till we meet again, Ola.
